A framework for International action in protecting biodiversity that was agreed at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in 1992.It calls on countries to identify endangered species and conserve the places where they live, and under it each nation agreed to prepare a National Action Plan or Biodiversity Strategy.
Areas experiencing the most pressure are among the most biodiverse places on Earth.The hardest hit are areas with more than 1500 plant species and areas with atleast 14 vertebrate species that are classified as threatened.When we look at the most species rich parts of the planet, previously we thought about 15% was still natural.But actually only 3% of Biodiversity Hotspots are natural according to Venter.This is really important because this is the most biologically viable real estate on the planet.This where we have unusually high concentrations of species that you just do not see anywhere..
